Historian | Researcher
My name is Tony Walzl. I hold a BA (Hons) and Master of Public Policy from Victoria University.
Since 1988, I have worked on Treaty of Waitangi claims before the Waitangi Tribunal.
I am a co-founder and partner of Walghan Partners, an agency with experience in Treaty research having contributed reports or resource documents in a number of Tribunal inquiry districts. Walghan Partners has researched and written on a range of historiographical issues.
I have also worked alongside almost a dozen claimant groups supporting their negotiations with the Crown. Since 2018, Walghan Partners has been assisting groups with their MACA applications by providing technical reports based on written sources that provides information to the Court on the customary associations of applicants with their takutai moana. To date, I have presented ten of these reports before the High Court.
